Three Months Later
Lana Cooper. She looked at the ring on her finger and said her new name over in her head. It felt good, just right for her. And Nick had approved when he heard her say it to herself as they traveled back from the church.
She loved it. A new life and a new start combining together. Lana didn’t anticipate getting married when she came out to Cattlelake, but she wasn’t arguing. Not when she knew she was going to be happy with her husband.
Now that had a nice ring to it when she thought about Nick.
“You’re smiling again.” Ginger appeared at her side. “And it’s contagious. I think everyone’s happier today just by looking at you.”
“Oh, you’re such a charmer, Ginger.” Lana indicated her friend’s swollen belly. “How are you doing? The baby’s not causing you too much distress, is it?”
“No, nothing like that. Thankfully, it’s autumn now and the weather’s cooler, so I don’t have to worry about the heat.” Ginger rubbed her stomach. “Although the baby’s been kicking for a bit now. Hopefully, they’ll settle down and I’ll be able to enjoy the day further.”
When Ginger had found out she was pregnant not long after Gold and his men were taken out of Cattlelake, she had been in a state of shock. With her last two children, she had found out early that she was pregnant, but instead she was close to four months before the doctor told her the sickness she was experiencing was actually a morning sickness. It was a miracle that she hadn’t lost the child when she was thrown from the tampered cart.
Now, Ginger saw it as a sign that things were going to get better. She had another sweet reminder from her husband, and she was going to cherish it. Lana couldn’t see it any better than that.
At least there would be one good thing coming out of the situation from three months before. Among many others, such as Lana and Nick finally realizing they had been in love for years and didn’t hate each other at all. Ginger had found it amusing they hadn’t figured it out years ago, and hadn’t stopped teasing Lana about the way they found out.
And they had received word about Jake Gold and the Whistler gang. They had escaped the death penalty, much to everyone’s annoyance, but they would never be getting out of jail. They were going to be locked up for the rest of their lives. It was the next best thing, and now they had to move on. It wouldn’t be good for them to dwell on it.
They had a bright future moving forward. Ginger was having another baby, and Lydia and Freddy were doing well looking after their mother. And Lana and Nick would be living in the next ranch, so they would be close by to help. Lana planned to visit as much as she could. She wasn’t going to leave them on their own.
“There you are!” Nick appeared in front of her, smiling as he hopped up onto the porch. He put an arm around her waist. “I was beginning to think you’d run away from me.”
Lana laughed and leaned into him. “Not a chance. You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
“Good. Mind if I steal my wife for a bit, Ginger?”
Ginger held up her hands with a smile. “You don’t need to ask. She’s your wife now. I’ll go and make sure my two are behaving themselves. I know they were eager to have some of that cake Mrs. Thomas made.” She clasped Lana’s hand. “I’m glad you’re a part of the family now. Things have finally fallen into place.”
Lana smiled back, squeezing her friend’s fingers before letting go. As Ginger stepped off the porch and headed toward the paddock where the reception was being held, the laughter and music floating across the yard toward them, Nick turned to Lana.
“I can’t believe we actually did this,” he said, his arms around her. “We used to fight like cat and dog, according to Mother. For once, she was right.”
“You and I really had no clue about anything, did we?” Lana danced her fingers across his shirt. “We really thought it was hate. I never anticipated it being anything else.”
“And yet here we are. Married. Someone has a strange sense of humor.”
“Are you complaining?”
Nick laughed. “Absolutely not. I’m very happy about how things have turned out for us.” He kissed her. “I’m so glad you’re now my wife. I couldn’t think of anyone better.”
Lana gave him a sly smile. “Even though you’re going to have to put up with me now? The woman who drives you mad every day?”
She got a kiss in response, Nick still grinning as he pulled back.
“And you’re stuck with a man who does the same to you, aren’t you?”
“That I am. And I don’t regret it. Not when I know I’m going to be smiling a lot more in the future.” She slipped her arms around his waist. “I’ve got plenty to smile about now. You won’t hear me complaining about it to you.”
“I hope not. Otherwise I’ll know I’ve done something wrong.”
“Oh, I’ll let you know about it.” Lana kissed him. “But you don’t have to worry about any of that.”
As far as she was concerned, after things going wrong before, now it was all going right. And Lana could see life getting even better, especially with her new husband at her side.
She couldn’t wait.

Hello, lovely readers! I hope you enjoyed both the book and the Extended Epilogue. I can’t wait to read your feedback here. Many thanks! 📖💫
Wonderfully entertaining story to read. Lana is fortunate that Jerry in Southport was such a cad. Otherwise, Lana would have missed out on the terrific love she has with Nick.
Gold was too conceited that his mistakes caused his downfall.
Sheriff Meachen was too complacent. Learned the hard way that not everyone can be trusted explicitly.
Glad Ginger has another blessing to arrive soon to add to the family.
Thank you for your writing Mia Dunham. Much appreciated
